Poppies

and the Earth is a child
who’s forgotten all the poems
he’s been forced to learn
and made to recite before
a contemptuous rabble
of “peers”

Hog Butcher to the World
roads taken and not taken
the Jabberwock
maddening nonsense
that aggravates his ADHD dyslexia allergies
makes his Ritalin skin crawl
revitalizes the sting of his father’s leather strap

This is the child
This is Spring
